My 2 friends and I were having a big debate about which anime is better: Naruto or DBZ? They said DBZ but I say Naruto. I say Naruto is better than DBZ because DBZ is just coming to the planet and just kill nothing else but that. It's all about violence for them. No life lessons or shit. Just killing the bad guys and shit that's all they do. On the other hand Naruto is show that will make you emotional and has meaning and it also teach you things in life. DBZ is just violent! All about violence.... Barely any emotional episodes and hardly teachs you any life lessons. While there are still more reasons why I perfer Naruto than DBZ, this is my #1 reason why I like Naruto more than DBZ. So my question to you is which anime is better: Naruto or DBZ?

DBZ. Period. Naruto is inspired by DBZ, just like most other action animes/manga at the moment. DBZ introduced the west to anime/manga pretty much, without it we would likely not know of any other manga or anime. I agree that Naruto has a better plot though.

DBZ is just about aliens and explosions. Naruto was better at first. It taught a lesson about never giving up and chasing your dreams despite your circumstances or some shit. Then Shitpudden threw all that out of the window by making Naruto the chosen one.

DBZ is better. I don't know how you can say DBZ doesn't have emotional moments when there were plenty. Some examples would be: Vegeta sacrificing himself vs Buu, that was pretty emotional. Goku when he killed himself in order to stop Cell from exploding, also emotional. Chiaotzu killing himself to try to kill Nappa sent Tien over the limit. Those were just a couple of emotional moments off the top of my head but there were a lot more. DBZ also has a lot more action and better fights than Naruto imo.

DBZ barley has any flashbacks so we barely know anything about the characters past.... While Naruto you know mostly everybody's past

DBZ has an entire series called "Dragonball" based on the past. You should check it out, it's a lot more light hearted

Right? DB[Z] has amazing moments that are overlooked because of the presentation of the series overall. Both the original DragonBall and Z trump Naruto any day. The fights are well done and the tensions are always high in them [ unless you're fighting Hercule or Pui Pui ] and yet there's still a light-heartedness that comes with the grand adventure. It's the best.

Naruto and Naruto Shippuden like I said is more emotional. You connect to the characters and it isway more emotional if a character was to die from Naruto does than DBZ. DBZ is like this "they're dead but we can back with the dragon balls while in Naruto you can't. If a person does you can't bring them back alive expect the Ressurction Jutsu! So that's why Naruto Deaths are way more emotional then DBZ! And also you can relate to Naruto. Of example Naruto himself his an orphan. A bunch of people know what it feels without a family or parent to look after you and also how it feels to be loved by a parent. While DbZ you can't real relate it to real life problems and also doesn't teach you any life lessons at all.

As far as overall storyline, I'd say Naruto hands down. Not gonna lie but out of all the manga or anime I've seen/read (which really isn't much) Naruto has by far the best and most consistent storyline throughout the series.

DBZ was amazing up until after the Frieza Saga. After that it just got random (Dr Gero magically surviving and creating androids that rival the Z Fighter's powers and a monster that was sealed millenias ago suddenly being released). The Saiyan Saga was a great build up for the whole Namek/Frieza Saga, but there was never any build up for the Android/Cell Saga and the Buu Saga. It just kinda happened.

However the current storyline for Naruto has been building up ever since the beginning of the series. I at least hope it ends after this arc (with maybe one or two more to nicely tie up any loose ends).

Edit: I loved DBZ and it along with Rurouni Kenshin were the first animes I ever watched, but honestly looking back at it it just had no build up.

Dragonball Z and by extension Goku were the inspiration for the Big 3 that a lot of people rave over today. Characters like Vegeta are honestly more developed than a lot of characters in Naruto. Don't get me wrong, I love Naruto, but it really is annoying at this point that really Sasuke and Naruto have the limelight, and every other character has been pushed to the wayside (yes I know that is partially untrue considering the characters that have been fighting thus far in the current chapters). Of course, I am extremely biased since I've been watching Dragonball and Dragonball Z ever since I was 4 years old and it first came to the U.S. and I started into Naruto when I was 16.
