**In order to use the following, you will need to have GIMP downloaded and installed on your computer. You can go here to download it.

After installation, you are 1 step away from being ready to edit characters. On the top where there is FILE, and EDIT, go to the WINDOWS bar, Select DOCKABLE DIALOGS, and select the LAYERS dialog. You can alternatively press CTRL + L. Then, drag it to lock it on the dock. Now you can download the .xcf file and begin.

Click this Link to Download .xcf File

What makes this different that the many other guides/templates out there?

This template comes fitted with all of the text boxes in place, and all the chakras put in place. All you do is make visible the ones you want to see, and double click and edit the text.

So, just in case it is needed, I will go through all of the layers because I can.
Down the list I will go.

» Character Name
Simply double click and type in the name of your character.

» Character Description
Again, double click, then type in the description of the character.

» Mission Name
Same as the two above, double click and use the text tool to edit with the name of the mission. If it is a starter character, simply type in "No Requirements."

» Skill Titles
Skill Title 1-4
Same again... Edit by simply clicking twice on the box in the image, and then when the text is selected type in the names of the skills.

» Chakras
Skill 1-3, Invulnerability
This is slightly different. Rather than having to select to color from the image, (which you should notice was removed), you must expand/unhide the chakra layers. First expand the chakra layer group, then proceed to expand each layer as you go, starting with Skill 1 Chakra.

Then expand the layer group titled "1." This will pull up 4 chakra, all of which are invisible. Titled based on what type of chakra they are, you can select which one you want to see in the image by clicking to reveal the 'eye' to the very left of the layer in the layer dialog.

If that skill has 2 or three chakra used, simply go to the layer group '2' or '3' and repeat the process. Layer Group 4 will head skill 2, and Layer Group 7 for skill 3. The fourth skill already has a random chakra added for an invulnerability skill. Copy one of the chakra layers if you wish to change this, and paste it to fit.

*If you want to use random chakras, make any of the 4 chakras visible in a group, and just use the bucket fill tool (22nd tool) and fill it in with black.*

You can find out more about using visibility in GIMP and the Layers Dialog here. Specifically check this chapter:
2.1.2. Using the Layer dialog » Layer visibility

» Skill Descriptions
Double click to edit text boxes.

» Cooldowns
When you double click, select around the #, and then replace that with the proper number to insure it is in the correct spot.

» Classes
Upon double clicking to edit the text layer, go through and delete the unapplicable classes. The classes are broken up into the three categories.

For attacks, you should use all three.
Any combination of:
Physical/Chakra/Mind
Instant/Control/Action
Ranged/Melee

i.e. Physical, Instant, Ranged, or Chakra, Control Ranged, or Mind, Instant, Melee, etc.

For non-damaging skills, the melee/ranged class will not be applicable.

If Affliction or Unique apply, leave them, if not delete them.

» Chakra Requireds
Don't touch these. They're simply there. No need to go and edit them though.

» No Costs
If your character has a skill that has no cost (like Tenten's preparatory skill) then you can expand the No Costs layer group and make any of the 'No Costs' layers invisible. Make sure chakra are hidden for that skill.

To end it all... Delax asked for me to explain how to expand text boxes, so I made a video, because it's easier that way. Until I get really sidetracked and end up making a bunch of mistakes. But oh well, it'll have to be good enough!

If the link is broken, please inform me via private messages.

That's it.
No need to credit me for the template, I just thought I would share this so people would be able to create characters that were properly formatted easily and effectively.

Looks like it will be helpful for those who don't actually like to edit every detail themselves (the people who used character creator) o.o
Kisuke Urahara is God himself!

You are very welcome!
Thanks for the positive feedback.

@roia, thanks!

I wanted to say, I don't use the custom character maker, but I will say the nice thing about this is that you are able to save the .xcf so you can edit it to make balance changes very easily. That's probably the best thing about this.

for the skills boxes is it limited to what we can write in them, or can we add more lines and if so how do you do it?

The text boxes are formatted to fit the space of the box. If you run out, you must use the rectangle select and copy the bottom of text box and move it down 14 pixels. Then you fill where the bottom was with the color of the text box. I might update so you just make a layer visible for that.

Then you create a new text layer of the right color and font, and it should go 1 pixel in from the very left pic border.

In order to place it correctly vertically you can enter the original text box one return down and type and line up the text baselines.

Yep, no problem. I will probably make that so you just make it visible or something.

Hey there, nice guide.
Only one detail: It should be Mental and not Mind.

I suppose

Oops...
I'll have to fix that in a little while. My personal template uses a Mind class as opposed to mental, so that's why there was the mistake.
