I am sure everyone knows about the George Zimmerman case where he shot a black youth Trayvon Martin last year. He is currently on trial and its being heavily reported by the media. What is everyone's take on it? Do you think he committed murder or was it self-defense?

I found this article particularly interesting lol. American teachers are bad I guess

Murder, easily. He based his decision to kill him from assumptions and stereotypes. There is so much evidence to support that side it would be rediculous if they don't put him in jail.

what evidence is there that proves that he killed Trayvon out of "assumptions and stereotypes"?

All Trayvon was doing was going home. It would've been slightly "ok" if he had a gun shooting it or something but shit...all he was was some skittles. The hell you need to shoot a kid over that, even if he stole it, which he didn't.

Well Idk man, I'd say it was a self-defense, since that guy got his nose broken, even tho I don't know how would a 17 y.o kid whoop a 28 y.o's ass.

Dude was probably so afraid for some reason that he even forgot how to fight.

Murder he didn't have to go after him since he thought the boy was trouble. The cops told him to leave it alone. No he wanted to play superman .

Then I suppose I can cover the basics...The case is about a guy (Zimmerman) who shot a 17 year old kid (Martin). He called the cops reporting suspicious activity of Martin the night of the shooting. There was a confrontation between the two that ended with Zimmerman shooting Martin, in what he claimed was self defense. He had a broken nose, and several cuts on the back of his head to back his claim of self defense, and no charges were filed initially. However, after some serious public outcry charges were eventually filed and now the case is being tried. You'd have to look up more information if you want all the specifics, this is just basic synopsis of what happened.

Pursuing someone and stalking does not equate to murder. Neither does profiling someone. I think the point of contention here was that if and how the alleged altercation played out. The conflicting witness accounts make it hard to believe which side was winning the struggle and who was on top (the aggressor). In either event, I believe Zimmerman is probably innocent. Trayvon was a wanna be hoodlum by the way he dressed and acted in life before his death and was a heavy user of Marijuana. I can totally see how he would attack aggressively and he could have easily outrun a heavier 28 year old man like Zimmerman. The point that he didn't and isn't still alive, is proof for me that he wanted to be in the fight.

Thanks Nami :cool ! Anyway back to the case.. Is there any chance perhaps that the damage Zimmerman got was self inflicted?

Yup. But people still saw the struggle so it would have been improbable for him to create the injuries after witnesses already had seen what took place and probably surrounded the crime scene.

The assumptions and stereotypes are in Zimmerman's call to the police after spotting Trayvon. He said the kid looked like he was "up to no good", "on drugs or something".
After confirming he was black and saying he had a hand at his waist Zimmerman started getting more suspicious and then followed him.

This is all after other individuals had been spotted in the area, one seen looking into houses, and two others in the area around the time a home was burglarized.

I'd like to say it wasn't self-defence, but there were witness accounts of the two of them fighting, further supported by the injuries Zimmerman sustained. It's sad though that his form of self-defence was so fatal.
