Chapter 1
"Kudo, please wake up! We have only 4 minuets to get ready!"
The words echoed across the room. Xan kept shaking his brother hoping that he would awake.
As Xan tried his hardest to awake Kudo in time to see Master Kai in his dojo as he commanded, he would not budge. A great sigh was released when Kudo started to awaken. "Hey brother. What is it?" Kudo said with a low dreary voice. "Get your clothes. We're late!" Kudo's eyes grew wide. "How late Big Brother?" Asked Kudo "Shut up and come on! We only have two minutes!" Xan grabbed his brother and tried his hardest to get him to the Dojo.
"Finally made it? You know your 5 minutes late." Shouted a voice from the dojo. It echoed loudly making it hard for Kudo or Xan to want to enter.
They finally decided to walk in. Master Kai's son, Rorimaru, was waiting inside.
He looked angry. At this point, Kudo wanted to run away. He probably would if Xan wasn't holding on to him so tightly.
Xan bowed in front of Rori to show his apologies. "Don't apologize. I understand." He smiled at them both. His dark brown eyes made it hard to see if he was truly forgiving them or was about to do something unpredictable. "I was about Kudo's age when I fist trained over my father. I too was late almost everyday on the fist few meetings. But with time, I was able to make it there. Now, let us begin with what you will be doing today. Today, I will be signing you both up for the Sakuracci tournament that happens each spring! It's a great test of speed, strength, and power."
He stated. "It has exactly 4 classes. Novice- which will be Kudo of course, White Arms- Xan's place, Black Arms, and Golden Arms. There’s also another tournament event that happens rarely called the Platinum arms. But that only happens when the former champions of the Golden Arms attend. But that rarely ever happens anymore." He went on.
"Um, sir? Why do I have to be in it? I'm just 9 years old. I don't know how to fight either..." Kudo began to put his head down in defeat. Xan looked down at his now frowning brother. "Do not worry. Kudo, the people in the novice class are just as weak as you. No training or experience. The people in the White arms are like your brother. Young teens without experience, or minimal training. I can bet you that Xan would do fine in the Black Arms." Replied Rori.
"Master Rorimaru, I've seen one of these tournaments. My class is as you say it is. Please, allow me to advance to the Black Arms!" Xan looked at his new sensei knowing that there had to be a catch. "Sorry Xan, you have to atleast defeat 10 people in your rank to advance. It's the rules. But now..." Rorimaru's voice trailed off as he got into a stance as if he was going to attack them. "Let’s get some last minute traning in before we register.
They walked to the building. Around it were alot of tough looking people. All in the "Black Arms" Section. In the "White Arms" there were alot of young teens, and a couple of children. It was like they were entering some sort of festival. "Hey, how come we never come here brother?" Kudo curiosly asked. "Well, mom always wanted you to be in the house after school. You don't see alot of things that this city has." Xan answered back with enthusiasm.
"Well here we are." Rori said finally making it to the front of the line. He spoke to the people at the booth, registering them and paying the fee. They handed him two cards, an outfit, and 1 polished white arm pin to wear. The two cards stated their name, age, rank, and some instructions. As it was given to Kudo and Xan, they both felt honored to wield it. Especially Xan holding the shiny pin in his hand. It almost glowed. "Thank you Master Rori" They both said. Both showing a great amount of gratitude.
Suddenly two people walked past them. There was a female wearing a dark black suit and a male with the same. The Female had a Dark Pin, and the Male had a Golden one. As the walked past, the female looked back at Kudo. Probably curios of who he was. They both seemed about the same age, and around Kudo's age. Maybe higher. "I'd join, but it wouldn’t be fair for me to join in the White arms. With my training and all, I'd probably send someone to the hospital." Rori said while laughing. Suddenly someone familiar popped up to the "White Arms" booth. Young Haru has registered to the same tournament. She turned around with her supplies in one hand and the other in the air waving at them. "Hey guys, look, I'm joining too!" She sounded very excited. Xan was confused. He thought that she wasn't someone who would fight. As she aproached, she gave his father a hug and looked at Xan. "Isn't this neat? Now we're in the same class!" She winked at him. Feeling puzzled, Xan faced the entrance to the place. "Well, we better get going inside. I can't wait to see who else is here!"
The started their way inside as the got settled and read the instructions and got into their places as the first match of the Novice tournament began. It was Ikiru vs. Jobi. Ikiru was a small female who seemed to have an obsession of flickering hair off her face. Jobi was a young looking stubby kid. The match seemed hard to determine who would win. The two fighters attacked each other with a lot amateur attempts.
Finally the female Ikiru achieved in knocking her opponent out of the ring. The ring itself was a small one compared to the one outside. It was padded as if someone would dive head fist to the ground. The outside ring was bigger however. It was made of hard material, and the ring was high up. About 3 feet. It surely wasn't for children to play on. The next match was Kudo vs. Hanzetaru. Hanzetaru looked humble, but young. He knew how to fight, or at least it looked like it.
They took their places in the tournament and the match began. Instantly the boy rushed at Kudo. Kudo instinctively moved out of his way as he was unexpectedly rushed in the chest. Kudo took a deep breath. He knew he was out matched. Suddenly he got back up and punched him back. The blow did nothing since he missed. The boy grabbed kudo and began to spin him. He really knew what he was doing.
As they spun, Kudo lost control and went spiraling into the ground. He had lost, and was sent back very close to the audience. They announced Hanzetaru as the winner of the match. After a short hour, he also won the entire Novice tournament. He was victorious and received a prize that he did not let anyone else see. He quickly stored it in his pocket.
Next up was the White Arms tournament. The audience was moved to the outside stands. It was much larger. More people even showed up. "Don't worry Kudo. Everyboty looses. He was a tough kid." Xan said to ty and make his brother feel better. "I know it's just... there was something odd about the way he punched me. It didn't feel like a normal pain. But I guess I'm just dealing with losing." Kudo replied to Xan with a feirce look. They all made it outside as Kudo and Rorimaru made their way to the stands. The first match was Xan vs. Harumi. "Wow, thats odd... Right off the back, you and me? This is going to be fun, right Xan?" Harumi said to Xan with her bight green eyes.
They made their way to the top of the Tournament fighting area. An announcer authorized them to begin as Xan went to his stance. Harumi just put on her headband on her head. She rushed at Xan Kicking his side that seemed to get to him. "I'm sorry! I thought you would block that one!" Harumi squealed. Xan backed off and rushed at her and threw a punch at her. She grabbed it like it was an apple. "Going easy on me huh? Don't need to!" Her eyes went dark as she picked him up from that and threw him. Unbelievably, Xan seemed to stop himself by kicking her.
She went flying away onto the ground below, almost falling off. "Well then. It seems your not trying to win, your trying to show me what you can do, aren't you?" Xan called to her. "Oww that hurt damnit!" She said picking herself up as her soft brown hair covered her conniving smile. "Watch your mouth, your just 11" Xan said waving his finger to taunt. "Eleven enough to kick your ass!" She ran at him. This time she threw a punch at him, only for him to duck it. "Yeah, I was starting to play around with you, but..." He grabbed her body. "It's time to end this." Xan picked her up and peacefully walked to the edge.
"Put me down!" she screamed banging her fist into him, as he gently let her off the stadium. "'Don't need to go easy'?" Xan said in the same tone she did "No fair!" she screamed. The announcer granted victory to Xan. He walked off as if she was nothing compared to him.
As time went by, the next of the White Arms tournament has came around. Xan was going on the last round. The 4th one. He was to fight Kin. Kin was a smart looking boy with glasses. His short black hair was stringy on his brow. He pulled his glasses closer to his face with his index finger. The announcer called the match to begin. Instantly he ran to Xan executing a round house kick to the face. He blocked it immediately twisting him as he punched Xan in the face. Obviously he was fast. And he certainly knew how to fight. After a long time of fighting, Xan knew he was evenly matched. Both fighters breathing heavily. Finally the boy stood up strait and called the match. "Sorry. I could drop any minute. I give the match to you." Kin motioned he index finger to Xan. "Your very good." He added as he walked off. The announcer called the match to Xan.
The Semi Finals arrived. Xan was ready to fight his next opponent. He saw an even weaker opponent. "John Cambell. And you are?" John reached his hand out to shake the hand or Xan. He never really shook anybodies hand before. He knew instantly that he was from America. As he shook John's hand the announcer called the match as he hoped back as fast as lightning. The he quickly punched Xan down. Before he hit the ground, He instantly kicked him in the chest hard. He went flying out of the ring. Xan has never felt this kind of pain before. It was such a quick battle, he could barely hear Johns name being called as the winner. "Maybe if you kept your guard up, rather than eyeing what you think you see, then you might have dodged that. But what do I know? I'm to weak looking to be a great analyst." He said tipping a small salute with two hands walking off. Harumi instantly rushed to Xan. "Are you okay?" Harumi looked very worried. "I'm fine. Just can't feel my entire upper body." Xan joked smiling. She laughed a little too. At his side was Rorimaru holding out his hand to help him up. "You made it farther than I thought you would. Your also a lot faster than I thought too." Rorimaru Commented. "But your style... It doesn't really match the way you fight," He quickly added "My dad may have taught you pretty well, but not a lot. I guess there’s more room for improvement, aye Xan?" Rori looked as if he was going to train him right then. "Thanks Master Rori. I'll look forward to it." He grabbed Rori's hand and shifted himself up. "But there’s something I've got to see. Can we hang around to the Golden Arms?" Xan asked. Rori nodded gleefully.
The winner of the White Arms Tournament was Kante Kurin. A young British girl. She was promoted to Black Arms and felt honored. She bowed, although she over did it. Then she dramatically flipped off stage like she could swear she was a ninja.
The next couple of matches in the Black Arms seemed to be a long time. Both fighters always seemed to match up to each other. Then finally, came one of the people that Xan had seen. The girl wearing the black clothing, that opposite all of the other contestants. Except the other kid of course. "I wonder who she's suppose to be." Kudo curiously asked. "Some tramp if you ask me. Why isn't she suppose to be dressed in white like the rest of us?" Haru grunted. The match began. In seconds she instantly ran to her opponent. "White Heart, Black Soul!" She shouted as she attacked. Her opponent instantly fell to his knees starting to grumble. Then he finally hit the ground. "Out cold." She left the ring knowing that she already won. "Winner, Umm... Apparently Yori..." The announcer shouted. Suddenly she fell, then got up quickly. "What the hell do you mean Yori? That guy is knocked out cold!" She shouted. "Ahh, ma'am, you left the ring..." He said almost confused himself. She laughed and kept walking away from the outside tournament. "Umm... Okay then?" The announcer commented. "What... in the world... was that?" Xan asked looking completely shocked. "The walking out part, or the destroying the guy in one hit?" Haru replied. It was rhetorical, because even the entire audience was shocked of what just happened to the poor man on the floor.
After that, the Black Arms tournament went on normally. Except for the fact that one of the contestants had a trip to the hospital, leaving a "Free pass" for another opponent.
The winner, Gin Kabi, Won the tournament and received a small black item. It was complementary to the Pin on his clothing.
Finally the entire tournament was over. Xan and Kudo were amazed. Harumi seemed uncaring, although she was cheerful and was rooting for people during the entire tournament, no matter who it was. Mainly who she cheered for lost. It's not her fault though.
"Well. This was a very long and interesting day" Xan said.
"I can't wait for the next one. Then I'll be ready!" Xan went on. Haru wanted to ask him something, but ended up waiting. She didn't want to butt into his moment.
After all, he was already about to fall out right then and there.
