Hello everyone, I decided to make a guide about the gfxing art in photoshop. In here everything will be explained. I'll try to make it as easy as possible to understand. If you don't have photoshop, but use gimp. Then you can still look around because somethings might also count for gimp too. If you think some features are hard to understand or have a request you want to fit in here. you can pm me or email me or chat with me.

Well to begin, Gfx stands for Graphics. People who make Graphics are called Gfxers. With the certain Graphics abilities you're even able to get to work with Graphics Art, like making website's design's, etc. When you begin gfxing(=smaller word for making graphics art) you'll be called a low novice gfxer. As for just a beginner. After you get a little better you can call yourself a novice gfxer. And yes, when you're better then that, you're a intermediate or high novice gfxer. After you can do all type's of gfx, in which we'll go in on later, and you get a lot of good rating, after that you're a moderate gfxer. After this rank you'll be pro gfxer. Although it will take a lot of time then get so good. When gfxing you have to do it with feelings, when you're angry on someone you're probably not gonna make it really nice. So try to but your mind into it and make a very good looking art.

Well first of all you'll need a program, there are 2 good programs for doing this, you have Photoshop and you have Gimp. (Gnu Image Manipulation Program) I'm using photoshop and that's what I'll be teaching you guys to work with. If you use gimp don't go away because you might even learn from this. Well if you start don't get an all too big canvas size. This is the size you're signature will be. Get something like, 380px X 120 px. That's around good. If you make a banner you can make it bigger. There are also vertical sigs. We'll get to that later. When you have your canvas you want to have a stock or render, a stock is a image that has a person with a background, a render on the other hand doesn't have a background, which can come in handy sometimes. Stock image + Render image You want to drag the stock or render on the canvas. If your using a render you can trying making the background a light color from your render. Like this, click here
And then you take a few brushes and make it look good. Or you can smudge but we'll get to that later.

23r9xds.png
To begin if you want your sig to look good, try using color that go good with each other, like if your render or stock has a few green colors in it. Try making the rest also a little green-ish. That would look good. Don't use a lot of brushes over each other. It makes it look rushed and weird. Also don't make the render or stock to big or too little either. Try making it just the right size, and other things is don't put it exactly in the middle if your stock or render is going to the left or going to the right. Let me show you 2 example's. Bad + Good
That's for this part, continue on to the next one.

mt1lhk.png
+\\Brushes
When you download brush make sure you download good ones from like Deviantart, they have good brush. When installing brushes make sure you remember where you unzipped or saved it. Go to My computer > Local Disk (C:) > Programs files > Adobe > Adobe Photoshop > Preset > Brushes, and drag or copy paste the brush in it. After that the brush should be successfully installed. To open up different brushes, Step 1 + Step 2
That's how you get to use a brush.

+\\Font's
When gfxing you should use an all to big font or messy font. Example. If you put text on your signature don't put it to far on a sig and neither to near by. Sometimes leaving it without text might work too. To install a font go to. My computer > Local Disk (C:) > Windows > Fonts, when you're in this window press file > install new font. Then go to the document where you saved the file in and it should appear on screen. Example
And then it should be ready to use in every application on your computer where you can change the font.

There are a lot of different type's of gfx. The most well known of them are the following : Grunge, Abstract, C4d, Vector and Smudge.
I shall explain all of them. First of all let's start with Vector : If you want to make a vector signature, you can do it in 2 type's. With vector brushes or with pentool. Example of a vector sig. When making a vector sig make the color has simple has possible.
Now for Abstract. Example made by Shadow_Hokage An abstract sig is as it has something that have a hardened shape. Abstract sig can be made with smudging or with c4d's. Not a lot of info on this one.
Now we'll go to grunge. Grunge a quite hard to explain. A grunge signature is made of grunge brushes covering the whole canvas and after that you put your render over it, covering it.
In a c4d sig you use no brushes and no smudges, just plain c4d overload. Example of a c4d sig. When making a c4d sig try making the background a dark color makes it look good. And a lot of c4d's.
Last of all smudge sigs. Smudge sigs are quite nice, if they're made with the right tools and the right options. Here is a option you can use. They all belong to each other. Together they from a good smudge setting. 1 2 3

2aeyy9y.png
When gfxing you can use the following in your sig to maker them look better : Scanlines, C4d's, Wireframe, Gradient maps and Pentool. I shall explain all of these and how to use them. Also I will add how to make scanlines.
First of all c4d's. C4d stands for Cinema 4D, it gives your signature a little effect to make it look nicer. Usually you put c4d's on lighten or screen, but some other might sometimes also be good. You can also reduce the opacity if it's too much for you. If your using c4d's try to make them go with the flow, I'll explain flow later, go you get a nice effect. Linear C4D Bubble C4D
Now it's scanline time. This is what a scanline looks like. Example. You first need to make one too use it. First of all open up a transparent canvas of 5px X 5 px. Enlarge it like in the example. Example. Then go to the brush, right-click and select the pencil, like in this image. Example. Then take 1 px and draw a diagonal line like in the following image. Example. After that all you got to do is go to, Edit > Define Pattern, and save it. If you want to use it just go to, Edit > Fill, and then to pattern, and you will see it.
Now we will advance to Wireframe. Example of a Wireframe.
You use a wireframe by draging it to the signature and putting it on multiply. then you erase part you don't want. That's pretty much all to using wireframes.
For gradient maps, look at the example and you'll see how. Example
After you choose a gradient your signature's color balance is different, you can keep it like that or change the opacity or change it to color, or something.
Last of all pentooling.
When pentool you use the tool used in the example. Example.
Then make a path on your signature or canvas and then right click on the path, and choose stroke path. Example + After pentooling.
That's preety much all for pentooling, you can also try to outer glowing it, it will lookg nicer.

Well flow.. The word itself already explains how it is. The flow of a signature. The could be aligned to the right or to the left. Example of a good flow sig. As you see the flow goes to the left. Making it look nicer. You either do this by smudging or by using c4d's, you can also do it with brushes. Example. Creating flow in your signature is a good way to make a good signature.
Depth... We'll this word again, is easy to understand. The depth in a signature is really essential. Like when you're gfxing and you only just put your render on top, won't really go, and it would look messy. So like try to brush or smudge a little over them to create a good depth. You can also try to put some lighting sources in your sig, that will also help. Or even gradient maps.

History in her solemn page informs us that the crusaders were but ignorant and savage men, that their motives were those of bigotry unmitigated, and that their pathway was one of blood and tears. Romance, on the other hand, dilates upon their piety and heroism, and portrays, in her most glowing and impassioned hues, their virtue and magnanimity, the imperishable honor they acquired for themselves, and the grea services they rendered to Christianity.
