Unofficial Religious Debate Thread

Welcome to the unofficial thread for debating about Religion, God, The Big Bang and Science. Before I hand the thread off to the next poster, I want to make a couple points clear so they don't drag the topic down.

1) I'd like it if those who think threads such as this are pointless do not post about them being pointless. Only those who genuinely want to debate to post so the thread only contains pure points of argument and not any "Threads like this need to die" or similar posts. This helps to keep the thread on track and posters focused on the topic(s) at hand.

2) Keep the flaming posts out. If you have a problem with a poster and it starts leaking into the topic, I'd like it if you could take the problem to Private Messages to keep the thread on track and limit the likelihood of Mods needing to hand out warnings.

3) Keep all posts civil and logical. This meaning you post thought-out, non-flaming posts to comment on other's points. Spelling and punctuation within posts really don't annoy people that much, but I'd appreciate you using as correct spelling and punctuation as you can when posting.

I think those 3 requests ought to cover most of the potential problems that may arise during the course of this thread's life, however nothing in life(or virtual life as the case is currently) is for absolute certain.

All those associated with one or more Religions or lack of are welcome to post as to avoid seeming bias towards the common Christianity vs Atheism debates. Theorists are also welcome to post, as it will be interesting to see other's thoughts on how the Universe came into existence and how we were all created.

Anyhow, I think I've ranted on the guidelines for posting long enough. I'll hand the thread off to the next poster(s) now to begin building the base for a debate.

Here's a lot of questions I want to know:

Will the world end in 2012?
Will America be destroyed from the inside-out with economic problems just like the bible said? (Well, maybe not word for word, but close to that)
Will God return before the world ends?
Does Evolution really exist?
If we could get into space, is it possible to break through the boundaries of the universe or is it unlimited?

So many questions, yet so little answers

I'd like to think that most of us can have a civil, actually INTELLIGENT DEBATE. If you want to sit here and say 'bad idea' or 'doomed to fail' about the topic, then don't post at all. You aren't being at all constructive to this topic, so just leave and don't post.

Man I didn't know you till that last thread where you really made a name for yourself. So let me help your topic a bit.

As per religion I just think that religion, if not politics, will be the death of us all. There have been way too many wars and death fought because of it, and for what? I'm not saying get rid of religion because that's stupid. Religion is always gonna be around, be it for good or bad reasons.

Anywayz man hope this qualified as a legit post.

I agree with you on most of that. It probably will be the death of us, but where would we be without it? We couldn't survive without the government and its politics... though if the politicians were less corrupt in many cases, we wouldn't have so many problems.

Well, it's only a small factor that politics corrupts people. The underlying issue is that the Government itself is flawed in several areas from when it was first established until now. With the dual-party system in place, whoever was presiding in the seat of power before the next election had gotten X accomplished. When the election takes place, say Party B overthrows Party A(the current presiding power). Then Party B looks over what Party A had accomplished, then more often than not decides to scrap what Party A accomplished and implements their own course of action, thus the phrase "One step forward, two steps back.".

The same can be said for those with and without support or belief in Religion. Whatever Religious Party A accomplishes(Proves/Disproves) in contrast to NonReligious Party A's accomplishments(Proving/Disproving) in accordance with Religious Party A. Deadlocked at both points, however it's fun to debate over the theories presented and how plausible they are.

On the serious side and a little bit off topic: These 'ten commandments' that God 'made', they are really hard to follow.
"Never have sex with someone that you are not married to." What the fuck do you think happens BEFORE the marriage?

"Never steal, become greedy, or kill." Seriously, who hasen't done these things? And when it says 'Kill' that means kill more than just humans. Many of us kill insects almost everyday, so we are going to hell on that one.
