Alright guys, lately I've been noticing you have been having some difficulties understanding the "no advertising rule" we currently have listed on the Naruto Boards Forum Guide.
Naruto Boards Forum Guide wrote:
17. Do not advertise competing products and/or services.
So, I would just like to give some more in depth explanation of the rule itself so we don't have much difficulty with the rule anymore. I will provide, for the most part, examples of what could (and usually does) happen to say what is allowed and what's not allowed.
Please note, these are just examples. The rule is not limited to only these examples for situations. A moderator can tell whether or not a thread is considered advertising.
What is NOT Allowed
A member makes a thread 'Come play this new game' inside is a link to another flash game and of course the member could describe the game and etc. As the title of this part suggests, this is NOT allowed.
A member makes a thread on a website for 'free stuff' and they link you to it saying things like 'ZOMG!!! You can get free 360 games here' and etc. This is not allowed for a few reasons. These sites can be dangerous as they are often scams to get personal information from you or give you unwanted viruses or spamwares.
Advertising your chatbox in a new topic is NOT allowed due to the fact it lacks content and pointless. IF you do want people to visit a chatbox, you are permitted to put the link in your signature, or if it's a clan's chatbox, also on your clan's main thread/ recruitment thread. This also applies to things like 'click my eggs' and etc.
What IS Allowed
A member makes a thread on an upcoming game. They provide a link to an article about said game. This IS allowed due to the fact:
-The game isn't even out yet (this does not occur all the time,as the game could be out, and the thread is about a review. But this is still allowed)
-The member probably just wants peoples' opinions on the game
-Its just an article, not an actual link to a game
A member makes a thread about saaaaaay, I'll use Pokemon arena for an example. These types of threads are allowed currently, as they are just drafts, and thus are considered GFX projects currently. HOWEVER, links to 'official forums of _____' are not allowed to be on the threads (unless it's a forum for a clan) considering that link can be considered as advertising for another forum.
A member makes a thread on a youtube video. Saying things like 'Hey guys, check out this sweet video I found!' then provide a link to a youtube video. This is allowed as there's really no harm in sharing a video as long it doesn't break any of the Naruto-Boards Rules.
A member posts a thread asking for peoples' thoughts on a forum/site they are creating for who knows what. They provide a link to said forum/site and ask for advice on what to do to make it better. This is not advertising because he is not intentionally advertising, but merely asking for CnC on a forum/site he is working on,aka a GFX project in a way. HOWEVER, this is not allowed if it turns out that the link that they posted is not their own in any way (aka they tried to secretly advertise).
Again, these are just examples. What counts as advertising and what doesn't is not limited to these examples. It is always in the moderator's insight to ultimately decide what is advertising.
