#1 Hi !! Welcome to the fun realm of Custom Character (CC) making !! My "Step by Step Guide in Making Quality Custom Characters for Dummies" yearns for simplicity and ease in understanding I hold no authority over each process, I'm also learning just like you I am merely sharing what I've learned so far so if anybody know a better, faster, simpler way, feel free to point it out It'll make this guide better, thanks I. Gathering Materials A. Programs Adobe Photoshop Since we're trying for quality, we absolutely need photoshop, if you insist on using other program, this guide won't help you Adobe Photoshop Elements 7 with Keygen - Download Here WinRAR In case you don't know what to do with .RAR files, you need to decompress them using WinRAR, kinda like WinZip. WinRAR - Download Here 1. Install WinRAR 2. Run WinRAR 3. Browse and Locate and Highlight the Adobe Photoshop Elements 7.rar 4. Click Extract 5. Extract to anywhere, just don't forget where you extract it uTorrent If in case you don't know how to download torrent files, you need to install a certain program to download torrent files, torrents are pretty useful so I suggest having such a program on your PC uTorrent Client Program - Download Here 1. Install uTorrent 2. Go to Photoshop download Link 3. Click Download Torrent 4. Choose Open (if you prefer choose save, but its faster to choose Open) 5. uTorrent should popup, click OK and wait for the download to finish 6. Torrents can resume download unlike rapidshare or megaupload, so you can take your time downloading B. Quality Pics A lot of people jude by appearance first before reading, so put some effort into collecting cool pics for your character 1. Download HQ videos of the episodes and then screenshot < don't bother with this if you don't plan on keeping the copy of the episodes 2. Ask friends < hey why not? 3. Online Screenshots < highly recommended Pre-Shippuuden Episodes - Naruto-Kun Screenshots Gallery Here Shippuden Episodes - Animay.net, find best quality Here - Animestocks, Incomplete but allows more choices in case C. Template - Elemaster's Template, I edited some stuff so that it works for me Download PSD Template Here D. Photobucket Account - you can use other hosting sites but I use photobucket so I recommend this one Website - Photobucket Home Page This site is where you will upload your finished products so that everyone can see your custom characters *You will not be able to show your custom characters in topics and threads WITHOUT UPLOADING them FIRST II. Processing A. Photoshop - Pictures 1. Run your photoshop 2. Click File > Open 3. Open the template Elemaster Edited.psd (read the errors if they appear) 4. Open all the pic that you will use for your character, there should be a total of 5 pics (1 for avatar, 4 for skills) 5. You will need to reduce each picture to 75 x 75 PIXELS for the avatar 74 x 74 PIXELS for the skills, if you don't know how follow these steps a. Choose the Rectangular Marquee Tool b. Hold and Drag your mouse over the area you want to include in your picture c. Remember to keep your area equally proportional, meaning it should be shaped SQUARE and NOT RECTANGLE, or else your picture will end up stretched, you do not want that d. If you're done, Click Image > Crop , this will leave the area you selected e. Resize the picture, Click Image > Resize > Image Size f. On the Image Size window, Make sure that your measurements are pixels, and Uncheck "Constrained Proportions" input 75 or 74 on both fields like in my image, ignore the rest. Click OK 6. Press Ctrl + A to select everything 7. Press Ctrl + C to copy everything 8. Go to your template and press Ctrl + V to paste 9. YOur image should appear in the middle of the template, move it to its proper place a. Choose the Move Tool b. Drag your picture onto its place c. Use the arrow keys to finely adjust the position 10. Repeat steps 5-9 for the rest of the pictures B. Photoshop - Details 1. Choose the Text Tool 2. Click on the text that you want to replace 3. Delete the current text and replace it with your own 4. For details on character descriptions and skills check out Biographies and Ninjutsu Lists on Leafninja Link Here C. Photoshop - Chakra Distribution If you're using the template on this guide, follow these steps, if not, you're gonna have to cut and paste 1. Choose the Move Tool 2. Click on the chakra that you need on the top right corner of the template 3. Drag the chakra onto its proper place, use arrow keys for fine adjustments 4. Repeat until you complete everything D. Done? III. Finishing Touches A. Enhancements 1. Picture borders - make sure that all your pics have a borderline of 1 pixel thick, the template already have the border but, when you placed your pics, you prolly covered the borderlines, so we make it appear a. Highlight the four skill images (Hold Ctrl + mouse click on each) b. Click on Layer > Arrange > Bring to Front c. Adjust your pics if they aren't inside the border, the 74 x 74 pics should have no problem fitting in (use arrow keys for fine adjustment) 2. Sharpness - if you are done, Click Layer > Merge Visible , this will simplify your work (editting will become harder so make sure you've done everything) a. After Merge Visible, press Ctrl + A to select everything b. Click Enhance > Auto Sharpen 3. Color - this makes your pics look rich and full of vibrance a. Press Ctrl + A (if you haven't already) b. Click Enhance > Adjust Color > Adjust Hue/Saturation c. Adjust the color to your satisfaction, not too much, not too less d. Adjust the brightness if your pic is darkened or too bright 4. Things to Remember: a. Avatar should be facing right (feel free to do whatever you want) b. Fill in all of the text fields, Don't forget to put classes and cooldown c. Close Ups are favored in N-A, so don't be shy to zoom further d. SAVE in PNG form, never ever forget this B. Uploading - www.photobucket.com a. Log on to your account b. click Upload and upload your finished product c. Hover on your image until the links appear d. choose the IMG link , it should say copied to clipboard, if it doesn't, press Ctrl + C C. Broadcasting your creation a. Go to Naruto-Boards > Custom Character and Manga Characters b. Create a New Topic c. fill out the title, poll etc. d. press Ctrl + V to Paste your IMG link (it already have img tags so you won't have to worry about anything) e. post topic and await your ratings IV. Miscellaneous A. Face Buttons - these are links that have Avatars instead of simple message link like in my sig a. First you need a copy of the avatar that you want to be the Face Button b. Upload it on your photobucket (you should already know by now how to) c. Second you need the address of the webpage that you want to link. Either a link to an image from your Photobucket Album or a link to a thread (like Character Collection Thread) d. Using url and img tags put them together like this <= Click Pics and Rate!!
