I am hosting the first ZOMBIE INVASION of the Naruto Boards. It is sponsored by JinMei Week, which celebrates the return to activeness of one of the most loved clans of the boars - Jinmirai Meibatsu.
Credit to HyuugaHinata32 for inspiring me to create this tournament!
Prepare for a lot of reading...
Background
The town of Knightsbridge is a quiet, regular place where people live just like anywhere else - a little bored, but nevertheless happy. That is, until the Zombie Invasion. The town was torn to shreds by the virus that rapidly spread through the small community. As many people fell, the zombies took over. Food dried up, and many moved away.
A few weeks later, the last six remaining humans of Knightsbridge have decided it is time to take back their beloved town. There are only three zombies left - and they're going DOWN.
That's the plan, at least.
Knightsbridge Map
RULES AND HOW TO PLAY
Six players will join the survivor team, and three will join the zombie team.
Each player will choose a "type" to define their character at the start of the game. These will determine how the game is played by that player and will last for the duration of the game, so choose wisely.
Types:
Key
+ : benefit
- : drawback
z : zombie skill
Strength:
Strength types are naturally brawny anad can deal lasting damage to their foes as well as build protective measures. Moving their large frame does cause a lot of noise, however
+ Can build barricades
+ Each vanquished zombie takes an extra turn to resurrect
- Makes noise when moving between two different districts
z Can immediately break through barricades
Stealth:
The slight figure of the stealth type enables them to sneakily attain any item before another survivor can see it and make their way noiselessly at high speed, but to maintain such quiet stealth, items cannot be carried between areas over a long distance
+ Can take any item without contest if claimed at the start of a round
+ Can run between districts without making a sound
- Items cannot be carried between districts
z Can not be detected by intelligent types
Intellect:
The sharp mind of the intellect type enables them to maneouver with greater knowledge of their surroundings and use items more effectively. However, spending so long with their books means that they are more prone to zombification
+ Can see where all zombies are currently residing
+ Most Special items are more effective
- Healing items are less effective on the frail constitution
z Can see where all humans are currently residing
Game Flow
Survivors will then pick a location from the map. Some locations may hold special items, others may place restrictions on the player. Special items offer a bonus to the player for a set number of rounds. If two or more survivors pick the same location and there is a special item, they may either fight for it or come to some sort of agreement (unless one of the survivors is the stealth type. If there are two or more stealth types, the above rules apply to them also). If two survivors fight, then the losing player will die and will be no longer be involved in the game.
The Zombies will then pick a location. If a survivor is there, they must then choose to either fight or run away. If they run, they must pick another location from either the same district or an district which borders that they are in and discard any items they have picked up. Running causes a lot of noise, and thus zombies will be alerted to their location, and may follow them in the next round. Survivors cannot run for two consecutive rounds.
If a survivor fights and loses, they become a zombie, their "type" conferring new powers to them and their killer. Zombies can have more than one type by defeating varied opponents. If there are two survivors present, then the second survivor can kill their fallen comrade before they turn into a zombie providing they can beat any zombies attacking them.
If a zombie loses, they come back to life in two rounds' time, unless prevented by an item. Zombies have three lives each. If there is more than one zombie present, the survivor is able to pick who to fight first, due to the zombie's slower brain speed. If a survivor comes across a downed zombie, they can choose to take "The Risk". They will have a 50% chance of either taking away one life from the zombie instantly, and without having to fight, or they will wake the zombie early and be forced to fight it.
At the end of each round, survivors can either stay where they are or move to any location within the same district or within a district that shares a border with their current one. The fight for survival will continue until either all of the zombies or all of the survivors have been exterminated.
All movements and decisions should be sent in a PM to the ZombieInvasion account. I will record the outcome of each fight and reply when a new round is about to commence. Because of the nature of the tournament, a round could take an hour or a week. Please be patient.
Special Rules
Certain locations, items or characters confer different traits, bonuses and obstacles to the players of both teams. Below is a list of some of them.
Barricade
Some areas provide the materials for barricades to be constructed, and others come with barricades pre-made. A zombie will often have to spend one round destroying the barricade, enabling the survivor to prepare for the coming fight or escape without having to run away.
Weapons
There are a number of weapons to be found around Knightsbridge. They may cause a zombie to lose more than one life, instantly kill them, or cause them to wait longer before respawning. Finding them can be key to survival.
Message Boards
Certain places have locations where survivors can leave messages to any others that may pass by. These can be used to offer trades for items, or to arrange to move as a pair so that the zombies can not turn humans into their kind.
Medicine
Medicine can be used to prevent a survivor from dying in a fight and turning into a zombie. They must be taken at the end of a round and last for a set number of rounds following. Medicine must be active BEFORE a fight in order to be effective.
Demoralisation
In some cases, what survivors find in a location may shake your heart. In these moments of low self-confidence, all item use is nullified.
Set Pieces
Certain locations house the potential for large "Hollywood" action moments. If a survivor defeats a zombie here, the zombie will instantly be killed, with no further chance of regeneration. All set pieces can be used only once.
Requesting to Join the Game
This game will require a lot of effort. As such, the people selected to take part will be carefully chosen by myself and other members of JinMei from those who say that they are willing. Remember, this is my first run of the game, and you can think of it as a BETA. Do not expect everything to run smoothly or perfectly; in fact, be prepared for some tought times and rough patches. But, for those who will brave the storm, I hope this will prove a worthy waste of time better spent writing essays and revising for tests ;)
Zombies and Survivors fully picked
-----------------
I hope you enjoy my attempt at infusing a bit more strategy and fun into the sometimes dull Naruto-Arena battles and tournaments! Remember, live sexy or die trying ;)
Please note: I am not using the in-game usernames to prevent people from messaging each other about the locations of zombies etc. You will receive the username via PM when a battle occurs
SURVIVORS
Vincent - librarian
He has spent the past three weeks hiding out in the local university library, eating nothing but vending machine chocolate and drinking carbonated drinks. It would have been quite expensive if he hadn't found a baseball bat discarded in an open locker. Unfortunately, the supplies have run out, forcing him to move on looking elsewhere for food.
Desmond - professor of the occult
He was always a zombie movie buff, and this love for all things undead led him to study the occult at a much deeper level. His passion carried him far, and he eventually gained world-wide reknown as one of the greatest proffessors in this field. When the zombie attack occurred, it was almost like a dream come true. He's spent the last few weeks studying the undead and getting some real hands on experience.
Owen - musician
Owen was part of a moderately famous heavy metal band called "Death's Grip"; ironically, his other band members are both firmly held within the said grip. He were the drummer anyway, so he doesn't mind too much. He's managed to survive by hiding in a local Italian restraunt and eating their frozen lasagne, but they've now run out, forcing him to move on. Having been the regional champion at hide and seek for three years running will surely help him greatly.
Jack - Auto-recall Consultant
He had possibly the most boring job in the world before the zombies took over, but now, he's actually pretty excited. He managed to get hold of a pistol from Guns R Us in the first few days of the zombie invasion, and has been sat in his house, shooting the buggers that tried to break down his front door. Shame that the gun ran out of bullets.
Matthew - Student
Matthew splits his time between kicking ass and engaging in bawdy sexual behaviour with his fellow student cohorts. Matthew slays men with his fists and women with his third leg; but what people don't know is that he is also a very sneaky and sly cheat. Passing others' work off as his own is his speciality, and he has developed his sleight of hand to legendary magician levels.
Menchi - Archer
An unfortunate byproduct of the marriage between a Matsumoto fanboy and a Tenchi fanboy, he grew up with a less than "regular" childhood. His father was the shaman of the local underground religion of Animu, an offshoot of the worshipping of the Final Fantasy X aeon Anima. Indeed, it was a strange upbringing, and his current line of work indicates this. Archery is his passion, and always has been. It helped you fend off zombies for three weeks, but now he's just lost your last arrow. Time to get barbaric on these undead bastards!
ZOMBIES
Gau - Drug Kingpin
Once the nightmare resident of the nearby town of Granthorpe, he has become one of the more resilient of the undead. Since being eaten alive three weeks ago, he has set up an brain selling service for his undead pals. They bring him fresh meat, he provides them with brains. It's a great way of staying strong, which is good, because that's the sort of thing he was first into when he was a human; steroids got him hooked on drugs for life.
Billy Bob - Professional Eater
Billy Bob, or as he's better known, Billy "Blob", was the meanest eating machine known to Knightsbridge's many restraunts. He was the most feared event on the all-you-can-eat buffet calendar; he always finished his "Eat THIS and get it FREE" steaks; it is rumoured that he even once ate his way through a steel container. Ironic then, when he himself was eaten. Too slow to outrun the zombie hoard, Billy Bob now enjoys eating human flesh.
Ryan -Drive-Thru Order Taker
He was supposed to be a doctor. Everything was in place - the brains, the education, the skills. Then, one day, it all went wrong. He discovered an online turn-based game called Naruto-Arena, and it destroyed his life. Every day he went on it for hours at a time, trying to become the best. Unfortunately, it meant that his life as a doctor went down the drain. Before he could complete his infamous +99 streak, the zombies invaded, and ate his body just as he was about to land the finishing Chidori.
Avatars
Lazy_Genius_13 has kindly offered to make avatars for the participants of the Zombie Invasion. If you would like one, I suggest you get in touch with him ^^
