Based on a series of light novels written by Tanaka Yoshiki and illustrated by Kakinouchi Narumi.

The story revolves around Ryouko Yakushiji, a 27-year-old multilingual investigator that graduated from Tokyo University's elite Department of Law, and the bizarre cases she faces while working for the Tokyo Metropolitan Police. Yakushiji not only has to deal with supernatural beings in her line of work, but also her rival Yukiko Muromachi, another equally talented and beautiful police investigator.

Ah. One of the few good detective series I've come across.
This series reminds me a lot of X-Files. The mysteries are very similar and only major difference to X-Files would be that instead of having leading male character, we have leading female, who does the job of Fox Mulder. Although the story is somewhat told from Junichirō Izumida's view.
The episodes so far don't seem to have any kind of connection with each other, so I would say it's pretty much random events from the novels, thought there's one two episode long case. Despite that, it is great, if you wish to figure out who's the murderer and whatnot before it is revealed you'll have to think of things. Thought in the end it is revealed how did Ryoko come in the conclusion that certain person was the murderer.

Watch it. This series isn't getting the amount of attention it deserves.

bump~

fuyu if u know an anime similar to these let me know. 2 more episodes left. i cant wait for it to be finished so i decided to watch it anyways...and im bored too. i like the stand alone kind episodes they show...each episode are really well written...despite only a stand alone. i like animes with strong female leads, and esp if they paired with a somewhat helpless guy. their chemistry is good here, reminds me of rock and levy.

so if u know animes similar to these let me know. these is a good anime, i hope they pick up another season. better than those stand alone golgo 13 episodes. lol.

i also like the somewhat romantic tension between the two lead characters.

Well, for strong female leads few series pops up to my mind;
Shingetsutan Tsukihime also known as Lunar Legend Tsukihime.
Fate / Stay Night
Crest of the Stars series
Kara no Kyoukai ~Garden of Sinners~
All of the four above has the "couple" with strong female lead.
Few other possibilities comes to my mind..
Witch Hunter Robin ? Don't know for sure. Female lead there should be.
Witchblade - Has got female lead, but there's no "real" male companion along with her.
Negima - Well, there's class full of girls and the male ain't really full of himself either, so..I suppose this could count as one.
Rurouni Kenshin - Well, I'm sure you know this. The female character is more of support than lead thought.. I don't know.
Mahou Shoujo Lyrical Nanoha - There's pretty much only females in the whole series..

Well, the latter of the series goes little by the what you asked, but I suppose the few of them are viewable...

As for the series itself then,
Think I've viewed up to episode 10 or 11 and it's take quite a turn, I would say.
The mixture of genres in this series has been indeed the reason why I've stood with it.
The deductions aren't the greatest, but still about the average. Shame it has gotten so little attention, after all it's got maids with guns.
